Viola H. Woolfolk Learning Center
The SMS Library is located in the Woolfolk Center, housing over 10,000 cataloged holdings, including books, DVDs and videos, CDs and cassettes, and microfiche. The library has fiction, non-fiction, ESL, and reference collections, in addition to special collections for local Virginia history, and books written by alumnae.

St. Margaret's library is the resource and reference center of the school. Each student is encouraged to use the library for both pleasure and research-oriented class projects. St. Margaret's subscribes to over 50 magazines and 8 newspapers (local, regional, and national). The library provides access to 5 electronic research databases and 3 online subscription encyclopedias from all school computers. On the library shelves students can find books about topics from the Battle of Appomattox to zoology. In addition to academic resources, the library maintains a wide variety of lighter books, including popular fiction and graphic novels, to encourage students to read in their spare time. All students may check out books and keep them for up to 2 weeks.
Students may also schedule reference interviews, where they can meet with the librarian to get research help any time they need help preparing a paper. The school librarian is on hand during school hours to answer questions and assist students, and the library is open until 10 p.m. every night. Every resource and opportunity is at the student’s disposal.
The library is also home to the Reading Room, where the students have study hall, community meetings, and speakers. The room contains student desks, cubicles, discussion tables, and other types of study environments to each student’s effective learning style.
