Minimester To provide as many opportunities as possible for a well-rounded education, St. Margaret’s developed a two-week Minimester program. Every February and March, faculty team teach intensive, seminar-style courses that encourage creative inquiry, experiential learning, and an exploration of topical, cross-curricular themes. Students also may take advantage of the Minimester Travel Program. Proposed trips include exploring a different overseas country every year and traveling extensively within the United States. To learn more about Minimester, download the Minimester Brochure In addition, here are some of the travel options: A TALE OF TWO CITIES: LONDON AND PARIS– Come with us as we explore these two historic cities and their areas. We will first arrive in London which will also include side trips to Oxford, Bath, and Stonehenge. In London, students will also study theatre as we visit the Globe and attend a showing in the historical West End. As we travel across the English Channel, we will be based in Paris seeing the sites of the Arc de Triomphe, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, and the Louvre, and attending a fashion show. We will also have a side trip to the magnificent palace of Louis XIV in Versailles. Cost: approximately $3300 - Faculty: Dickinson and McDowell HAMMER AND NAIL: COMMUNITY SERVICE IN SOUTH CAROLINA – St. Margaret's is committed to educating girls “for fulfilling lives of work, study, and service.” In support of our school mission, we will travel to Charleston, SC, and work with the United Methodist Relief Center and Habitat for Humanity building projects. ZEN AND THE ART OF . . . –
This Minimester class inspires students to discover their Zen in a variety of experiences. Let your imagination
go wild! Express your creative personality through food art, rhythm & dance, nature and camping, and trips to
the Ginter Botanical Garden and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS: VIRGINIA ADVENTURES – If you like traveling in time, camping in the Art room, reading stories of the unknown, and writing poems about your adventures, this class is for you. We will spend time on and off campus traveling to sites rich in the story of Virginia and America, going where man has been before. Because this year marks the beginning of the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, options may include, travel to local battlefields, walking the Civil War Slave Trail, as well as trips that focus the art and architecture of the time. Finally, we are planning an overnight to Washington DC to see Ford's Theater and other museums on the Mall. On campus, we will work on creating a portfolio of our time travels through prose, poetry, photography, and painting.
