Independent Study Program - ISP Seniors are eligible to participate in an Independent Study Program during the Minimester Term at St. Margaret’s. The format of the program allows students to design a meaningful two-week program that might explore a potential profession, conduct a formal research project, or participate in community service. There is a special application process for an ISP. Because this is an independent project, students are completely responsible for deadlines and due dates. Failure to meet these due dates will most likely result in the denial of the ISP. Students must submit a detailed proposal, including a daily schedule (required), daily responsibilities and names of on-site supervisors before receiving final approval for their ISP. It is our intent that the daily time spent on ISP activities during Minimester will equal or exceed an academic day at St. Margaret's. Applications without sufficient information or clear purpose will be denied. ISP candidates are to ask a faculty member to be a sponsor. In this capacity, the faculty member will work with the student to clearly identify what the student wishes to gain from the experience. They will also help the ISP Candidate prepare and rehearse a final presentation. During the ISP, students will maintain a daily journal to assist them in the preparation of the final presentation. The ISP will culminate in a 10-12 minute presentation to the school and a short ISP summary paper. The presentation will occur the week after students return to campus from Spring Break. In addition the Site Sponsor will complete an evaluation of the ISP candidate and send it to the ISP Coordinator. Participation in an ISP is recorded on the final transcript with an Honors, Pass, or Fail grade, and the presentation score will be incorporated into the trimester English grade as a test. Preliminary 2009-2010 ISP Deadlines October 9, 2009 Letter of Intent—This letter must clearly state the general plan of the ISP and include site specific information. It must also include faculty sponsor initials as endorsement. Seniors who do not submit this letter must plan to participate in an SMS sponsored Minimester Program.
