Dining in Tappahannock

Lowery's Seafood Restaurant

Founded in 1938 by Wesley and Lorelle Hutchinson Lowery, Lowery's is without a doubt the most historic place to eat in Tappahannock. Located at the corner of Route 17 (Tappahannock Blvd.) and Earl Street, Lowery's is open 364 days a year for lunch and dinner. Being on the Rappahannock insures Lowery's will always have a sampling of the many kinds of locally caught seafood including crabs, shrimp, clams, oysters, and many kinds of fish. Also found inside Lowery's is the founder's antique car collection, a talking parrot, and a fishing well for kids. No reservations are needed, but their phone number is 804-443-4314 if you have any other questions. Here's what the Richmond Times-Dispatch had to say about Lowery's. "It's worth a drive to Tappahannock just to eat at one of Tidewater's most famous eateries. The place is Lowery's Seafood Restaurant in downtown Tappahannock. Try the backfin crab, the rockfish, or the crab cakes. Finish lunch or dinner with any of the homemade desserts. But watch out for the vanilla fudge devil. It's so rich and delicious that there ought to be a law." More recently, Lowery's has added wine and beer to its offering to complement those wonderful and legendary seafood dishes.
