Endowed funds are the key to St. Margaret’s continued financial stability and future viability—so much so that the school’s Foundation Board has set a long-term goal of increasing endowment by nearly $15 million.

The SMS endowment provides for student scholarships, faculty salaries and enrichment opportunities, and the feasibility of multiple school programs. For many donors, it also is a meaningful way to leave a lasting legacy through the Sara Morriss Society.

To preserve principal and fuel continued growth, it is school policy to expend only 5% of the income from endowed funds annually, based on a rolling 3-year average. The remainder is reinvested and hedged against inflation. Wachovia Securities manages the St. Margaret’s endowment with oversight from the nine-member Foundation Board.
