Resources for International
Parents & Students

International Festival 2004 The Friendship Family program connects SMS international students with families and individuals in the community who are interested in sharing American culture with the students. Some of these families have daughters at St. Margaret's School, some used to have daughters here, and others are friends of our school. Families may choose to spend time with students over dinner, at a movie, or through events at school, such as an athletic match. Most have immensely enjoyed the experience of hosting a student and the richness that it brings the home. As one Friendship Family put it, “We were the Friendship Family to one student and were visited in our home by two others. Each was different and enjoyable.” This contact outside of the school campus will be one of the most cultural and real experiences international students have during their stay in the U.S.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How do I get placed with a Friendship Family?
You simply need to tell the International Programs Director (Leslie Bohon) about your interest and she will help you fill out a form and place you with a family. You will need permission to participate in the program from your parents or guardian.

What kinds of things will I do with my Friendship Family?
You will probably do everyday activities, such as eat dinner together, see movies, talk about your families, and spend time together. The Friendship Family will want you to be like a daughter, so you will be just like any member of the family.

International Festival 2004 SMS International Festival Days

International and American students celebrated their heritage during International Festival week. The week-long observance included special lunches and evening activities, culminating in the International Festival dinner, fashion show and cultural program.

Students immerse themselves in another culture each spring in preparation for the SMS International Festival. Teams of 10-12 students choose a country to research, prepare a display table and present a brief cultural program in front of the whole school and a panel of judges. In addition to the presentations, festival highlights include the parade of nations, international dinner and medal ceremony.
