The new St.Margaret's banner made it's first appearance at Commencement 1996. Designed jointly by Chaplain Ann Reeder Riggs, 75th Anniversary Coordinator Anne Emery, and Bill Griffith of Festival Flags, the banner embodies the three fundamental emblems of St. Margaret's School.

Top - The waves represent St. Margaret's location on the banks of the Rappahannock River.

Left quadrant - The shield of Saint Margaret of Scotland includes the Cross of Saint Andrew, Patron Saint of Scotland. The first bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church of America, Samuel Seabury, was consecrated at Abredeen, Scotland on 14 November, 1784.

Right quadrant - Displays elements of the school's shield. The Scottish thistle and a Latin cross supported by a Bible and Chalice. The date, 1921 marks the year of the school's beginning.

Bottom - The lower section depicts a golden ship from the shield of the Diocese of Virginia. This signifies our status as a school under the direction of the Bishop of Virginia.

The banner and stole were given in thanksgiving for the life of Alfred M. Campbell by his family and friends. Mr. Campbell served as co-chairman of the Parent's Development Committee when his stepdaughter, Ashley Watt-Campbell, '94, was a student.
