Leadership
"Girls are the ones who make things happen here. We offer the opportunities and provide the guidance."
--Margaret Broad, Head of School
Every student has the chance to become a leader at St. Margaret's School. That's because at girls' schools, young women chair all the organizations, captain all the teams, and hold all the student government offices.
St. Margaret's students also have the opportunity to take leadership classes, providing a curricular link between theory and practice.
In a year-long course called "Women in Leadership," students are educated for and about leadership. In class they explore their own strengths and weaknesses as leaders, theories of leadership, women's ways of leading and practical strategies for working with groups. Within the community, they use their knowledge during weekly lunches with eighth- and ninth-grade students, and at town meetings and residential programs.
Honor Council
The Honor Council upholds and enforces the Honor System. The Honor Council consists of two faculty members and five girls elected by the student body. Honor Council members attend disciplinary hearings and are available at any time for questions about the Honor System.
The Honor Council Head is a senior elected by the student body who serves as the leader of the student representatives to the Honor Council. Two Honor Council representatives are elected in the spring and one is elected in the fall.
