Dear St. Margaret’s families,
As we open for the new year, we are already making plans to gather the whole St. Margaret’s community again for Fall Family Weekend on October 12th and 13th. Because our events span both Friday and Saturday, we wanted to give you early notice of the details of the weekend.
A highlight of the weekend will be the Friday afternoon dedication of our new Athletic Complex on Sycamore Drive.
This weekend is a wonderful time to see St. Margaret’s School in action, from the classrooms to the sports’ fields. On the schedule of events, you can see time to be with your daughter, time to get to know those important to her here at school, opportunities to get to know other families and support school events and projects, and designated times in which you can schedule parent-teacher conferences. We look forward to having you here.
Please review the enclosed Fall Family Program and return the reply form promptly. You will note that you can also register by e-mail. As you can see, there is definitely something for everyone, from athlete to intellectual, from grandparents to youngest child.
The weekend will begin with Friday lunch and end prior to lunch on Saturday, with a full array of activities in between. There will not be a formal program at either of these meals, and families may leave campus after the Blue/Grey game on Saturday. I hope all of you will be able to attend the Friday events. Mini-classes place you literally in your daughters’ seats to better understand her academic program. The dedication promises to be both visually and symbolically meaningful. Bring your cameras! At the Parent Receptions you will have an opportunity to meet families with daughters in your daughter’s class, the class sponsors, and other members of the faculty and administration. The Seafood Festival Buffet is a relaxed family event on the river for our entire school community. Friday evening’s program features a number of our students. You’ll want to be here to hear about the experiences they will share and to look ahead with us at what the year holds for our school.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Alumnae Association River Run (you can also walk!) on Saturday morning. A form is enclosed. You can stay in your running clothes to cheer on our teams later that morning!
Please call or email Cookie Evans (cevans@sms.org), if you have any questions and please register by Friday, October 5th. I look forward to seeing you soon!
Yours sincerely,
Margaret R. Broad

Special boarding student information: Please note that because of the many school-centered activities, we are asking that all boarding students remain on campus Friday night. Please do not ask for exceptions. The remainder of this long weekend has been designated as a time for families of boarding students to spend time together either here at St. Margaret’s or off campus. If you would like for your daughter to stay with you or with the parents of another St. Margaret’s student during all or part of that time, please follow the usual weekend permission routine. Mr. Keith Krusz, Dean for School Life, must receive all invitation and permissions by Wednesday, October 3rd. The campus will be open for any students wishing to remain with us, but we strongly encourage you to consider using this time for family visits.
