June 8, 2006:   LOCAL STUDENTS WIN SMS COMMENCEMENT HONORS
Girls from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula were awarded some of St. Margaret's School's highest honors at June 3 commencement exercises.

June 8, 2006:   ST. MARGARET'S GRADUATES 38 SENIORS
Thirteen girls from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula are among the 38 members of the St. Margaret's School Class of 2006 who were graduated on Saturday, June 3.

June 8, 2006:   STUDENTS HONORED AT SMS AWARDS BANQUET
St. Margaret's School students have won academic scholarships and special prizes that make them eligible for college scholarship consideration if they apply to and are accepted by the sponsoring institutions.

May 25, 2006:   NEW 2006-2007 LEADERS INSTALLED AT ST. MARGARET'S
Girls become leaders at St. Margaret's School, where there are more than 50 opportunities to captain teams, lead class activities, head organizations and help administer campus life.

May 18, 2006:   SPRING SMS STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED
At a recent awards breakfast, St. Margaret's student-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments during the spring sports season. Nearly two-thirds of the senior class was honored for team membership this trimester, and 15 students were cited for earning varsity letters in all three athletic seasons this year.

April 24, 2006:   ST. MARGARET'S ATHLETES HEAT UP SPRING SEASON
St. Margaret's spring sports got off to a solid start as the soccer, softball, crew and tennis teams challenged their first rivals of the season.

April 17, 2006:   GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE AT SMS BLOOD DRIVE
Local residents have a convenient opportunity to donate blood, thanks to St. Margaret's School. The student community service organization, Basic Needs, is holding an American Red Cross blood drive on Thursday, April 27 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the school's Water Lane campus.

March 30, 2006:   SMS STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM "ULTIMATE LEARNING EXPERIENCE"
From where he sits, Chris Skinner sees too many young people damaging their grades, killing their bodies, and hurting others by drinking and using illegal drugs.

March 27, 2006:   MYSTERY WRITER TO SPEAK AT SMS
Area residents are invited to join the St. Margaret's School community for a presentation by mystery writer Ted Blain on Tuesday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the school's library on Water Lane. The program will include a reading from The Parent, his novel in progress, and a discussion about the process of writing fiction

Giving your daughter an outstanding education just got easier, thanks to the Gloucester, Middlesex and King William shuttle bus service that St. Margaret's School is introducing for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Head of School Margaret R. Broad is pleased to announce the names of students who have earned a place on the St. Margaret's School honor, merit and B rolls for the second trimester of the 2005-2006 academic year.

February 23, 2006:   WINTER SMS STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED
At a recent awards breakfast, St. Margaret's student-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments during the winter sports season.

February 17, 2006:   SMS TEAMS CONCLUDE WINTER SEASON
Winter sports action at St. Margaret's School came to a close as the basketball and swim teams participated in league championships.

February 16, 2006:   SMS STUDENTS WIN ARTISTIC RECOGNITION
St. Margaret's art students won four awards, including the top two prizes for painting, in the student art division of the recent visual arts contest sponsored by the Woman's Club of Essex County.

February 10, 2006:   NATURE PHOTOS AND EDUCATION AT SMS
Area residents are invited to join the St. Margaret's School community for "Stewardship of the Environment: Virginia and Africa," a multi-media presentation by Mike Roberts, founder and executive director of Return to Nature, Inc.

January 20, 2006:   SCOTTY WINTER SPORTS HEAT UP
With only three weeks left in the regular winter athletic season, St. Margaret's sports teams have gained the momentum that will carry them successfully through the season championships.

January 9, 2006:   TRADITIONAL VIRGINIA BLUES MUSIC AT SMS
Area residents are invited to join the St. Margaret's School community for "Old Dominion Songsters," an educational evening of traditional Virginia blues music presented by Dr. Gregg Kimball and the acoustic trio Sheryl Warner and the Southside Homewreckers.

January 5, 2006:   RECENT GRADS THANK SMS FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS
St. Margaret's prepared them well for the challenges of college, said young alumnae who responded to a survey released by the National Coalition of Girls' Schools in late 2005. Their comments were echoed by a large group of recent SMS graduates who came to campus in mid-December.

Girls' education in the United States has experienced a renaissance over the last 15 years, and advocacy on behalf of girls is just as important going forward, St. Margaret's Head of School Margaret R. Broad recently told 270 heads of school from 9 countries.

December 2, 2005:   MAJOR RICHMOND EXHIBIT FEATURES SMS ART FACULTY
The first sponsored exhibition at Richmond's Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen features the work of Konst and Konstantina Konstantinov, art teachers at St. Margaret's School.

December 2, 2005:   HOLIDAY STORYTELLING AT SMS
Area residents are invited to join the St. Margaret's School community for an evening of seasonal stories by professional storyteller Les Schaffer on Thursday, December 8 at 6:30 p.m. The presentation, which will include tales about Christmas, Hanukkah and the Winter Solstice, will take place in Ball Memorial Gymnasium on Water Lane.

November 17, 2005:   FALL SMS STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED
Six girls from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula have earned recognition for their athletic accomplishments at St. Margaret's School. They were among the student-athletes who received awards at the school's recent fall sports banquet.

November 14, 2005:   SMS STUDENT IS BLANTON SCHOLAR
A senior at St. Margaret's School was among only 20 students statewide selected by the Virginia Historical Society to participate in its seventh annual Wyndham B. Blanton Scholars Forum.

November 11, 2005:   SMS TEAMS WRAP UP FALL SEASON
St. Margaret's varsity sports teams ended their fall seasons in the first round of league tournaments.

November 11, 2005:   LOCAL RUNNERS FARE WELL IN SMS 3-MILER
Pleasant fall weather and a flat course contributed to fast finishes in the Seventh Annual Rappahannock River Run at St. Margaret's School on Saturday, October 15.

The fall sports season at St. Margaret's is nearing an end as athletes prepare for league tournaments in early November.

Area residents are invited to join the St. Margaret's School community when author Ella E. Schneider Hilton speaks about her book, Displaced Person: A Girl's Life in Russia, Germany, and America, on Thursday, November 3 at 6:30 p.m.

The sound of turning pages was all that could be heard on the normally lively St. Margaret's School campus most afternoons in mid-October.

October 10, 2005:   SMS STUDENTS DANCE TO HISTORY'S TUNE
St. Margaret's School students got into the action when members of the Rappahannock Colonial Heritage Society came to campus to present a program on 17th century dance.

October 5, 2005:   ST. MARGARET'S STUDENTS TEACH TEACHERS
Four international students from St. Margaret's School were the only student speakers at the Virginia Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (VATESOL) conference at the University of Virginia on Saturday, October 1.

October 5, 2005:   SMS STUDENT IS NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT SEMIFINALIST
A senior at St. Margaret's School has earned recognition as a result of her outstanding performance on the 2004 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

October 3, 2005:   COMMUNITY INVITED TO CRAFTS FESTIVAL
Local residents can enjoy a beautiful day by the water-and get a head start on holiday shopping-at the Rappahannock River Crafts Festival on Friday, October 14.   The seventh annual event takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the lawn of St. Margaret's School.

September 30, 2005:   FOUR SMS STUDENTS ARE ADVANCED PLACEMENT SCHOLARS
Three members of the Class of 2005 and a current senior at St. Margaret's School have earned recognition from The College Board for their outstanding performance on Advanced Placement examinations.

September 30, 2005:   SCOTTY SPORTS CORNER: SMS STARTS SUCCESSFUL SEASON
It's been an exciting first few weeks of the St. Margaret's School sports season, with Scotty athletes on every team showing potential.

September 12, 2005:   NEW SMS FACULTY AND STAFF OFFER RICH EXPERIENCE
A faculty with more than 355 years of collective experience teaching at St. Margaret's School has been augmented by one new senior administrator and five new teachers. While this is their first year at SMS, these latest additions to the school community offer 63 years of collective experience at other institutions and organizations, further enriching the classroom and campus.

September 12, 2005:   ST. MARGARET'S DEDICATES MCCUAN HOUSE DORMITORY
St. Margaret's newest dormitory is now home to 24 students and 3 faculty families. Tappahannock Mayor Roy M. Gladding helped Head of School Margaret R. Broad and Patrick, Jill and Megan McCuan cut a plaid ribbon held by student leaders to officially open McCuan House on Saturday, September 3.

September 12, 2005:   REGISTER NOW FOR RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER RUN/WALK
Area runners and walkers can save time and money by registering now for the seventh annual, 3-mile Rappahannock River Run/Walk on Saturday, October 15.

June 17, 2005:   SMS ANNOUNCES HONOR, MERIT ROLL STUDENTS
Head of School Margaret R. Broad is pleased to announce the names of students who have earned a place on the school's honor and merit rolls for the third and final trimester of the 2004-2005 academic year.

June 10, 2005:   LONG-TIME SMS FACULTY MEMBER HONORED
The old song that goes, "Don't know much about history," is not one you're likely to hear on the campus of St. Margaret's School. Veteran teacher Louise Velletri mixes high academic standards with a sprinkling of good natured humor and a dash of hands-on learning, with the result that girls not only learn history, most of them end up liking it, too.

June 10, 2005:   NEW AWARD HONORS SMS FACULTY MEMBER
A St. Margaret's School alumna and Millers Tavern native is the first recipient of the John T. Rice Award for Excellence in Teaching. Chemistry teacher Sara Acree Brooks, a popular advisor who also has served as a class sponsor and coach, received the honor at the school's year-end Academic Awards Banquet.
