SMS Fall Athletes Honored

With the opening of our new athletic complex, this fall marked a special time in the history of the St. Margaret's School sports program. This historic event created a stronger sense of community and school spirit.

The result was a winning season for the field hockey team, which ultimately advanced to the second round of the League of Independent Schools tournament, a closer volleyball team which ate all of its free meals together, a cross country team that took first place in its first ever home meet, and a crew team that Coach Maren LaLiberty described in a word - inspiring. This sense of camaraderie was felt once more during the recent athletic awards banquet.

Three students won places on LIS all-league teams. Frankie Berscak ’10 and Crystal Thomas ’09 were selected for the all-LIS field hockey team and Caroline Casey ’09 received a spot on the all-LIS cross country team.

The cross country team selected Caroline as its most valuable runner and Michka Sharpe ’08 was voted most improved. Meghan Sisk ’10 was honored by coaches Frank and Milly Rixey for her positive attitude with a coach’s award. A four-year member of the team, Ellie Schneidman ’08 was recognized with a senior award. Award winners on the varsity field hockey team included Frankie who was voted most valuable player and Anna Beth Lawler ’09 who was voted most outstanding defender. Kristen Clayton-White ’08 also received an MVP award and a senior award recognizing her three years of dedicated play.
