Two years ago, my mom and I came to visit St. Margaret’s. Immediately upon stepping on campus we fell in love. After our tour we both knew that St. Margaret’s was the place for me. I am so glad that I had the wonderful opportunity to attend St. Margaret’s for my final two years of high school. It has allowed me to experience so many new and wonderful things from kissing a fish to being the “Queen of the Marsh” to being on the crew team. St. Margaret’s also gave me the opportunity to get to know and make friends from all around the world—friendships that will last a lifetime.
On graduation day, I couldn’t believe it. My two years had gone by so quickly and I wasn’t ready to leave all of the wonderful friends I had made. When the class of 2010 lined up on the front steps of SMS Hall for the last time to take pictures, it finally hit me. I was graduating from high school. It was a mix of emotions because, St. Margaret’s was not just my school, it was my home.
Anxiously sitting on the stage waiting for my name to be called, I looked out to the audience and saw everyone’s families. Seeing the proud look on each face made me realize that all of those stressful tests, papers, yearbook deadlines and late nights were worth it. Receiving my diploma made real for me the fact that I would not be returning on September 4th with the rest of the St. Margaret’s community.
Instead, I will be attending Longwood University to study graphic design. I am going to miss being a part of this small community, but I feel confident that St. Margaret’s has taught me everything I need to know to succeed. I also know I’ll be back to visit often.
Two weeks after graduation, I know I will not be moving back to St. Margaret’s in the fall, but moving into, and onto, college. I feel fully prepared (and excited!) to take on every challenge.
