At St. Margaret's, we believe in an appropriate balance of work and play. That's why we've devoted time and attention to creating an activities program that fosters personal satisfaction and growth. Students can pursue three different activities each year. We challenge them to try a variety of things knowing that they shouldn't limit themselves to what they know, but grow by trying what they don't. Each day betweeen the end of afternoon classes and the beginning of dinner, St. Margaret's comes alive with the energy of girls in action. This is a time when students participate in clubs, sports, and other activities. It is a time to have fun with friends, to explore interests, to learn in a different way. Weekends on campus can take our girls to events at nearby schools and frequent off-campus trips take advantage of the sights, sounds, and action of Richmond, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and New York City. On campus and nearby, cycling along the Rappahannock, strolling into town to catch a movie, or getting in some tennis are favorites. ![]()
Extracurricular Activities
If individual sports are more appealing than team athletics, there are plenty of other activities designed for solo performers. For the artistic, St. Margaret's offers two dramatic productions each year, and dance is offered each afternoon. For the civic-minded, community service fulfills this requirement. Contributing to one of three school publications is another option for students.
Activities include:

Weekend Activities
Activities beyond the boundaries of St. Margaret's campus give students time to relax and socialize with students from other boarding schools. They can include a cruise, a concert, or dinner at an ethnic restaurant, as well as shopping, dances, movies, and museum trips. For students interested in environmental issues, Project CLEARR (Citizen-Led Education About the Rappahannock River), spearheaded by our Environmental Club, involves teachers and students from other schools in collecting and interpreting river samples.
