Class of 2000 College Acceptances

St. Margaret's Class of 2000 is one of the largest in recent years, with 37 graduating seniors. Though many schools have much larger class sizes, St. Margaret's, as a college preparatory school, is privileged to call a graduating class of 37 students "large." According to ecology teacher and college counselor Mollie Conklin, of Warsaw, the class of 2000 has exceeded her expectations. Conklin, who's the first to admit that placing so many students seemed "a tall mountain to climb" at times, is pleased with the list of colleges and universities that members of the SMS Class of 2000 will attend this fall.

Day student college acceptances to-date include Cameron Sgroi, of Tappahannock, (Virginia Tech); Carver Weakley, of Montross, (The College of William & Mary); Garnett Ashworth (Longwood College); Lauren Cannon (Bluefield College); Rebecca Dix (Bridgewater College); Bo Hammond (Longwood College); Jamie Shelor (Rappahannock Community College); Ruth "Pie" Terry (East Carolina University) and Mary Emery, of Warsaw, and Katie Farmer, of Millers Tavern, both of whom will attend James Madison University.

Catherine and Laura SMS crewmembers, Catherine Redfearn (l.) and Laura Austin, both will attend The University of Virginia this fall. Catherine and Laura, both day students, are from Kinsale and Richmond County, respectively.

Day students Laura Austin, Sara Pirtle, Catherine Redfearn and boarding students Jeong Min Kim and Sara Wagner, have been accepted to The University of Virginia. In addition to these five members of the Class of 2000,1999 graduate, Carolyn Stephenson, has also been accepted to the University. Carolyn has worked for one year as an intern at SMS-Bushey in England prior to entering college; she will join the group in Charlottesville this fall.

Boarding students acceptances to-date include Alexes Anderson (Birmingham Southern College); Kym Register (University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill); Hyun Jin Kim (Carnegie Mellon University and Johns Hopkins University); Jeong Min Kim (Johns Hopkins); Ellen Totten (Ohio Wesleyan University); Yin Chien Hou (Rennsalier Polytechnic Institute, Washington University of St. Louis, Rochester Institute of Technology); Lisa Bruning (University of Colorado-Boulder); Alexandra Cornwell (Radford University); Chase Craven (College of Charleston); Lauren Cupp (Emery and Henry); Jessica Fram (Rollins College); Amy Laskar (Meredith College); Kendall Pettigrew (Presbyterian College); Truc Pham (Skidmore College); Margot Whisnant (North Carolina State University); Beth Wilson (Bluefield College; Ferrum College) and Lacey Wright (Lynchburg College). In addition, Ai Akohori (Christian International University), Ashley Colen (Lynchburg College) and Kaitlin Hawks (Concordia University), Ai-Lun Hsieh and Emily Reich are awaiting results of their applications.

As soon-to-be St. Margaret's graduates, these bright young women will leave the School with its influence deeply impressed upon their lives. Members of the Class of 2000 will take the next step before assuming their places in the world as lawyers, teachers, scientists, doctors, and ministers. In time, the merits of a St. Margaret's education will be evident - for the accomplishments of its graduates are the ultimate benchmark by which the success of the school is gauged. Through their achievements in life, these graduates will demonstrate the value of the kind of education they have been privileged to receive at St. Margaret's.
