Moncure and Pirtle Receive Funds from Fary Memorial Foundation

Ginny and Sara St. Margaret's seniors Ginny Moncure (l.) and Sara Pirtle both received money from the Fary Memorial Foundation to apply toward their undergraduate studies. Ginny will attend Washington & Lee University; Sara will enter The University of Virginia this fall.

St. Margaret's seniors Ginny Moncure and Sara Pirtle have been awarded money from the Fary Memorial Foundation to apply toward their respective undergraduate education. The distinguished Fary Memorial Scholarship (FMS) is awarded annually to four seniors within a sixteen county local area. Mr. William L. Lewis, trustee of the FMS committee, announced that Sara Pirtle, who won the scholarship, will receive $6,000 per year for the next four years; Ginny Moncure was awarded a $2,000 grant from the Fary Memorial Foundation.

Sara, a native of Champlain, will attend The University of Virginia this fall. She has played volleyball and lacrosse, served as 1999-2000 president of the student body, and been editor for The Channel (St. Margaret's yearbook) while at St. Margaret's.

Ginny, a resident of Tappahannock, has played field hockey and lacrosse throughout her SMS career; currently, she is editor of Blue&Grey, St. Margaret's 1999-2000 student newspaper. Ginny will continue her studies at Washington & Lee University where she will enter this fall.

"Ginny and Sara are both go-getters," commented St. Margaret's headmistress Margaret R. Broad. "I am optimistic that each will carry forward her St. Margaret's successes at college."
