New Student Government Association Officers Elected for 2000-2001

St. Margaret's School juniors Sara Newman, Britton Faulkner and Dwann Cutler were elected President of the School, Vice President of the School and Head of Honor Council, respectively, in Student Government Association (SGA) elections held last week for the 2000-2001 school year.

Dwann Cutler, Britt Faulkner, and Sara Newman New Student Government Association Leaders - St. Margaret's juniors Dwann Cutler, Britton Faulkner, and Sara Newman were named Head of Honor Council, Vice President of the School and President of the School respectively for the 2000-2001 school year.

Sara Newman, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert J. Newman of White Stone, has been a day student at SMS for three years. An active member of several clubs and sports teams, Sara is currently the junior class president. Looking forward to the 2000-2001 school year, Sara is already planning for fall orientation. "One of my goals for next year is to have a more organized 'sister program,'" states Sara. "I feel that it will help the new students adapt better to school and community life at St. Margaret's. "

As President of the School, Sara will head the SGA and lead the school in announcements held Tuesday and Thursday mornings (during a regular rotation schedule). As head of SGA, Sara would like to see this group become actively involved in creating guidelines and expectations and publish a SGA handbook. "This way future SGA presidents can know what is expected and can add new ideas and activities," she says.

Sara is extremely excited about the new school year. "I want it to be a year of accomplishments. Most importantly, though, I want it to be a year of school-spirited fun!," adds Sara.

As Vice President of the School, Britton Faulkner wants to help improve the quality of the St. Margaret's community. A three-year day student, Britton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Faulkner of Irvington. Britton's responsibilities as vice-president will be to help plan activities for the weekends. "My main objective is to provide a variety of enjoyable activities for all students on the weekends," says Britt.

Britt hopes to get a variety of students interested in helping to plan activities. "A great deal of my time will be spent getting the students involved in planning the activities," states Britt. "These activities will range from the usual - mixers, mall trips, and so forth - to those that are a bit more creative. I'd like us to make more use of the campus and for all of us to feel comfortable with a wide variety of activities."

As Head of Honor Council, Dwann Cutler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary A. Cutler of West Point, hopes to "inform the St. Margaret's community about the importance of having an Honor Code. A three-year boarder, Dwann is active in several clubs as well as presently serving on the Honor Council and as vice-president of the junior class. One of her major goals as Head of Honor Council, Dwann says, is to "show the rest of the community that the Honor Code is a serious thing and that we all should appreciate the system we have."

In addition to serving as Head of Honor Council, Dwann will also be a member of the SGA. "I am already looking forward to next year," Dwann says. "I am very excited about being the Head of Honor council!"

In addition, all three girls will be members of the Peer Leadership Class. As part of this class, the three will work with eighth and ninth grade students. They will meet twice weekly with small groups from these classes helping to orient them into the community and discuss other issues that affect them.
