SMS's Eastham Assumes New Role as Headmaster of Aylett Country Day School
Mark Eastham enjoys his final week at St. Margaret's. He has worked at St. Margaret's since 1995 as the Director of Development working on the school's capital campaign. Eastham will begin as Headmaster of Aylett Country Day School next week.
In describing his job responsibilities on a faculty/staff profile sheet he filled out upon being hired as the Assistant Head of St. Margaret's School in July, 1995, Mark Eastham wrote [in addition to handling the external affairs of the school as Director of Development]: "I'm in charge when MRB [SMS Headmistress Margaret Robinson Broad] is gone! That's why I'm happiest when she's in town!"
What a difference five years makes.
Following his last official workday at St. Margaret's on June 30th, Mark Eastham will be the one in charge every day - as the new headmaster at Aylett Country Day School. He assumes this position after completing five years at St. Margaret's School where he has served as the SMS Director of Development, focusing on the school's capital campaign.
"Thank you for these magnificent years," said headmistress Broad at a June 4th farewell dinner held in honor of Eastham. "I could not have had a more capable, congenial, and wise partner during this important period in the life of St. Margaret's School. As I have often said, I would have loved for you to stay forever, but I am very proud of the honor you have received in being selected to become Headmaster of Aylett Country Day School. I congratulate the Board of Directors of Aylett Country Day for their wisdom. You will be a great Headmaster!"
Broad continued, "I am thankful that I can look forward to our continued partnership on behalf of the children and young women here in the Tappahannock community. This represents an exciting opportunity for us to continue the work we have initiated here together."
Eastham completed his undergraduate studies at Washington & Lee University in 1984, where he received a B.A. in Journalism. He received a M.Ed. from The University of Virginia in 1994. Prior to coming to St. Margaret's, Mr. Eastham worked for 10 years at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, as Director of Publications, Director of the Annual Fund and Associate Director of Development. His wife, Kathy, is the Director of Care Management at Riverside-Tappahannock Hospital. They have two daughters, Katherine, 7, a second-grader at Aylett, and Caroline, 14 months. In addition, Mark is a Vestry member, and Kathy, is a Sunday School superintendent at St. John's Episcopal Church. The Eastham's have recently relocated to a home in Cold Cheer subdivision.
