St. Margaret's Hosts Community Relations Group Annual Luncheon
St. Margaret's Community Relations Task Force: (l. to r.) Mary Alice Passagaluppi, Mark Eastham, Leonard Wilson, Reverend Robert McKinley, Tom Boyd, Margaret Broad, Nancy Smith, and Suzanne Reynolds.
The most recent activity on the busy St. Margaret's campus this summer was a community luncheon program held at noon on Tuesday, June 27. The goal of the annual event, hosted by St. Margaret's School and the Community Relations Task Force, is to maintain strong ties between the school and its Tappahannock neighbors. The Community Relations Task Force is comprised of members of both St. Margaret's School and the Tappahannock-Essex County community.
The Task Force meets each term to discuss issues and concerns of common interest. This year's luncheon-program was held in the St. Margaret's Community/Technology Center dining facility. This state-of-the-art facility, dedicated in October 1999, is named in honor of headmistress Margaret Robinson Broad. Headmistress Broad and assistant school head, Mark H. Eastham, organized the event.
Following lunch, headmistress Broad addressed the Task Force. She thanked the members for their participation and presented an overview of the school's newly revised strategic plan. "We are particularly grateful for the feedback this group provides to the school," said Mrs. Broad. "Use of the Technology Center for both academic and civic purposes was important to us as we planned the construction of the facility. It is a pleasure to be able to express our appreciation to the members of the Community Relations Task Force at this annual luncheon." Other speakers included Mark Eastham, who spoke regarding the value of the CRTF and SMS business manager, Nancy Smith of Warsaw, who discussed use of school facilities on campus during the summer.
Members of the Community Relations Task Force are: Tom Boyd; Frances Ellis; Roy Gladding; F.L. Garrett, III; Thomas Harris; Linda Lumpkin; Gorland McBride; Reverend Robert C. McKinley; Mary Alice Passagaluppi; Suzanne Reynolds; Leonard Wilson; Mark Eastham and Headmistress Broad. Civic leaders in attendance included local business owners, the SMS Board of Supervisors, members of the Town Council, Sheriff Stanley Clarke, and other Essex County officials. Invitations were also extended to SMS alumnae and families hosting international students during the 1999-2000 academic year.
