Run, Festival, Will Offer Fun for All This Fall
Tappahannock (August 21, 2000) - The second annual Rappahannock River Run and Crafts Festival being planned for October promises something for just about everyone, say committee co-chairs Bette Albert and Ann Hill Williams.
The committee planning this year's Rappahannock River Run and Crafts Festival includes (clockwise from bottom left) St. Margaret's alumnae Jenni Booker of Tappahannock, Ann Hill Williams of Charlottesville, Bette Albert of Aylett and Martha Frances Fortson of Portsmouth.
"If shopping's your sport, you'll get as good a workout as the runners," Albert said. "It's the perfect opportunity to find that unusual holiday gift."
Artisans participating in the crafts festival offer a variety of one-of-a-kind items, ranging from knitted headwear and hand-smocked children's clothing to fancifully painted wooden decorative items and hand-thrown pottery. The juried show will take place on the St. Margaret's School campus on Friday, October 6 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., and again on Saturday, October 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
A limited number of tables are still available. Interested crafters should contact SMS (804) 443-3357 for application information.
Those who would rather run - and not shop - until they drop will find something unique awaits them as well. The 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) run/walk course that begins and ends in front of St. Margaret's Hall takes participants past historic homes along the Rappahannock River. Registration is required for the event, which will take place on Saturday, October 7 at 8:00 a.m. Race T-shirts will be given to all participants, and multiple awards will be presented, with special recognition for top male, female and Essex County finishers.
"Early bird" run/walk participants who register by September 22 will enjoy a reduced $12 entry fee and are guaranteed a race T-shirt. For more information, contact SMS at (804) 443-3357.
