Four Join SMS Staff
Tappahannock (August 28, 2000) - St. Margaret's School welcomes four new staff members to begin the 2000-2001 academic year: Monecia Naggs, Jenni Brockman, Louise Glendenning Cook, and Ann Marie Horner. All four women have relocated to the Tappahannock area and will be employed in the St. Margaret's Admission and Development Offices located in Brockenbrough House.
St. Margaret's School welcomes new staff members (l. to r.) Ann Marie Horner, Louise Cook, Jenni Brockman and Monecia Naggs.
Monecia Naggs, a 1977 graduate of St. Margaret's School, returns to campus as the Assistant Head for Development. Naggs received her B.S. in business administration from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg. She is currently pursuing a MPA degree in public administration and policy from Virginia Tech. Naggs worked at Mary Washington College from 1988-2000, where she had multiple responsibilities as the Director of Development, Director of Community and Organizational Development, Director of Annual Giving, Assistant Director of Annual Giving, and Alumni Programs and Budget Assistant.
At St. Margaret's, Naggs's primary responsibility will be to plan and implement the school's development program, which includes administration and oversight of the annual fund, major gift and planned gift programs, and alumnae relations. As a cabinet member, Naggs will be involved in strategic decision-making and long-range planning. In addition, she will work closely with Headmistress Margaret R. Broad, Director of Admission Kimberly McDowell and the Board of Governors on external issues affecting the school. She will also serve as the school's primary liaison for local community relations as a member of the Community Relations Task Force.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to 'come back home' to St. Margaret's School. As a St. Margaret's alumna, it is a real honor for me to be working for an institution that has made such a difference in my life. I also look forward to becoming involved in the Tappahannock community. This is a wonderful area and my family and I are delighted to be here," Naggs said.
Jenni Brockman is a graduate of both Bryn Mawr College (1982) and Indiana University (1987). She is assuming the responsibilities of a new position as SMS's Director of Marketing and Communications. Brockman was previously employed as the Director of Communications and Corporate Relations for Virginia Health Quality Center, a health care quality improvement firm located in Richmond. Her background also includes work at three educational institutions: The University of Missouri, Duke University Medical Center and The Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University.
In addition, Brockman is an ardent supporter of her alma mater, Bryn Mawr, a women's college located in Pennsylvania. She served from 1993-1996 on Bryn Mawr's Alumnae Association Executive Board and currently serves as a member of the association's Nominating Committee. Brockman is also an active member of the Episcopal Church. Prior to moving to Tappahannock, she was a vestry member and chaired the Finance Committee at the Episcopal Church of the Creator in Mechanicsville.
"I am a big believer in the power of women's education," said Brockman. "St. Margaret's is a wonderful place - and the school benefits not just our students, but the entire area. One of my marketing goals is to help take the mystery out of 'what goes on in those big white buildings' so that local residents can feel like they're a part of the school community."
Louise Cook received her B.A. in English from Hollins University. A native of Chattanooga, TN, she worked for one year as Assistant Director of Admissions at the Webb School in Bell Buckle, TN, prior to joining the St. Margaret's staff. She will assume the same title and similar responsibilities at SMS.
Ann Marie Horner graduated from Virginia Tech in May with a B.S. in exercise and health promotion. She will join Cook as an Assistant Director of Admission. Both women will travel to school admissions fairs to meet prospective students and conduct on-campus interviews.
