Three Local Girls Attending St. Margaret's This Year
Tappahannock (September 11, 2000) - Three girls from Northumberland County began their studies at St. Margaret's School last week, joining a total of 41 day students from nine surrounding counties. According to an informal survey conducted by the SMS Office of Admission, the top three reasons that families chose St. Margaret's were its high-quality teaching, structured environment and individualized academic support.
Northumberland County students at St. Margaret's School this year include (l. to r.): Sisters Emily and Blair Fisher. Not pictured: Brittany Walker.
"We help each student make the best of herself," said Director of Admission Kimberly McDowell, "so that she is ready not only for college, but also for the many opportunities she will have to make a difference in the world."
Two girls are new, and one is a returning student. Brittany Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Balmond J. Walker of Callao, has enrolled as a freshman. Blair Fisher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Fisher of Lottsburg, also is a new ninth-grader. Her sister Emily is now a junior.
Current seniors are Britton Faulkner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Faulkner of Irvington, and Sara Newman, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert J. Newman of White Stone. Nikki Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Clark, Jr., of Lively, is now in her junior year.
St. Margaret's is a 150-student boarding/day school for girls in grades 8-12 that was founded in 1921 by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. Its mission, "Educating Young Women for Life," is reflected in a college preparatory curriculum and co-curricular activities that equip girls to face the technological, global, intellectual and societal challenges they will encounter in our rapidly changing world.
Local families who are interested in learning more about St. Margaret's School are encouraged to call the Admission Office at 445-3357 and request an invitation to the next Day Student Visit Day, which will be held on October 20.
