Local Families Invited to SMS Visit Day
Tappahannock, VA (April 2, 2001) - If you're seeking educational alternatives for your daughter, it's not too late to consider St. Margaret's School. Many parents from around the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula have found that St. Margaret's college-preparatory curriculum, academic support and structured environment helps girls reach their potential.
Just ask current parents William and Wanda Ryan of Tappahannock. Their daughter, Cathy, serves as senior class president, is a member of the National Honor Society, plays varsity sports and will attend college in the fall.
"SMS has nurtured her, yet challenged her; provided opportunities, yet insisted on responsibility," her mother said. "Cathy has been given a community to be a part of and has developed into a young woman capable of handling demanding leadership roles."
Local families with girls who will enter grades 8-12 next fall can preview the SMS experience at Spring Visit Day on Saturday, April 28. The program begins at 9:00 a.m. and concludes with lunch. Highlights include individualized campus tours led by current students and a panel discussion featuring key administrators and student leaders. Admission interviews also will be available by appointment.
This year, 41 area residents are day students at St. Margaret's. They come from nine counties, including Chesterfield, Essex, King and Queen, King William, Lancaster, Middlesex, Northumberland, Richmond and Westmoreland. Daily round-trip shuttle transportation is available from the Northern Neck.
St. Margaret's is a 150-student boarding/day school for girls in grades 8-12 that was founded in 1921 by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. Its mission, "Educating Young Women for Life," is reflected in a college preparatory curriculum and co-curricular activities that equip girls to face the technological, global, intellectual and societal challenges they will encounter in our rapidly changing world. Consistent with its mission and heritage, St. Margaret's actively seeks and admits qualified students of any race, color, religious affiliation, or national or ethnic origin, and offers need-based financial aid.
Advance registration is required for attendance at Spring Visit Day. For more information and an invitation, please contact the SMS Admission Office by April 20 at (804) 443-3357 or admit@sms.org.
