River Run and Crafts Festival Slated for October

Tappahannock, VA (August 27, 2001) - The third annual Rappahannock River Run and Crafts Festival being planned for early October promises to be even better this year than last, according to committee chair Bette Albert. "Our slogan, 'sprint, stroll, shop,' says it all. There's something for everyone in the family," she said.

Artisans participating in the crafts festival offer a variety of one-of-a-kind items, ranging from silver jewelry to handmade baskets. The festival will take place on the St. Margaret's School campus on Friday, October 5 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., and again on Saturday, October 6 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

For those who would rather run or walk, there's the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) road race that begins and ends in front of St. Margaret's Hall on Saturday, October 6 at 8:00 a.m. A "Water Lane Dash" for kids will follow. Race T-shirts will be given to all participants, and multiple awards will be presented, with special recognition for top male, female and Essex County finishers.

Registration is required for the River Run, and "early bird" run/walk participants who sign up by September 22 will enjoy a reduced $12 entry fee and are guaranteed a race T-shirt. Race-day registration is $15. For more information, contact SMS at (804) 443-3357.

The Rappahannock River Run and Crafts Festival is a community outreach and fundraising project of the St. Margaret's School Alumnae Association. In addition to Albert, an Aylett resident, this year's committee includes Dawn Crowther Biddlecomb of Kilmarnock and Ann Hill Williams of Charlottesville.
