Recent SMS Grads are Advanced Placement Scholars
Tappahannock, VA (November 12, 2001) - Two members of the St. Margaret's School Class of 2001 have been named Advanced Placement Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level AP exams.
Claire Stephenson, daughter of Ned and Susan Stephenson of Tappahannock, is one of two recent St. Margaret's School graduates to earn recognition as an Advanced Placement Scholar.
Joan Claire Stephenson, daughter of Ned and Susan Stephenson of Tappahannock, and Alison Paige Wasserman of Baltimore were among only 13 percent of the more than 840,000 students who took AP exams last May to earn such recognition.
"We're proud of Claire and Alison, and of the head start on their college educations that St. Margaret's School was able to provide," said Head of School Margaret R. Broad. "One of the benefits of being a small school is that we are able to challenge each student to reach her full potential."
St. Margaret's offers six Advanced Placement courses, covering the curriculum from studio art to calculus. Most of the nation's colleges and universities award credit, advanced academic standing, or both, based on successful performance on the AP exams. Two or more SMS graduates have earned recognition for their AP test performance each year for the last several years.
Stephenson is a freshman at the University of Virginia, where she is a member of the women's varsity crew team. Wasserman is a freshman at Franklin and Marshall University in Lancaster, PA, where she is a Buchanan Scholar and a member of the varsity field hockey team.
