Tappahannock (May 22, 2003) - The St. Margaret's School Class of 2003 that graduates on May 31 had more college choices than ever as a result of the school's increasing name recognition outside the immediate area. Highly ranked institutions in Connecticut, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania are new to the SMS college acceptance list this year.

Seven girls from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula are among the 33 members of the senior class: Madison Camille Barkley (Mount Holyoke College), daughter of William Barkley and Delores Hill of Hague; Claire Townsend Hopkins (Lynchburg College), daughter of John and Mary Anne Hopkins of Oak Grove; Lindsay Ann Neist (Virginia Tech), daughter of Terry and Carol Ann Neist of Tappahannock; Ann Kramer Osburn (undecided), daughter of Bev and Betty Osburn of Tappahannock; Kathleen Margaret Rice (Davis & Elkins College), daughter of Ted and Shan Rice of Tappahannock; Jacqueline W. Sydnor (Virginia Commonwealth University), daughter of Jimmy and Linda Sydnor of Tappahannock; and Leslie Michelle Sylva (undecided), daughter of Gary and Deborah Sylva of Tappahannock.

The graduating boarding students include: Brittany Portia Alexander of Temple Hills, MD (Denison University); Merritt Wise Allaun of Newport News (Flagler College); Lucy Fairfax Brandon of Chesapeake (Virginia Tech); Charlotte Gabrielle Brown of Covington, LA (Manhattanville College); Kelly Marin Brown of Charlottesville (Lynchburg College); Alexandra Gray Burdette of Clifton (Catawba College); Laura Ellen Caton of Earlysville (Butler University); Yoon Jung Chang of Dae-Jeoun, Korea (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute); Cassandra Louise Cormack of Ashburn (Savannah College of Art and Design); Catherine Alexandra Farland of Millwood (study abroad); Kaoru Hoshino of Tokyo, Japan (Wittenberg University); Jennifer Louise Jackson-O'Toole of Arlington (Mitchell College); and Catherine Evans Johnston of Houston, TX (University of Kentucky).

Coles Point native Lee Boudreaux, a senior editor at Random House who graduated from St. Margaret's in 1986, will give the commencement address. Head of School Margaret R. Broad will be joined in conferring the diplomas by Sarah Belle Eason Parrott, an SMS alumna who chairs the school's Board of Governors.
