Community Invited to SMS Run, Crafts Fair This Weekend

Tappahannock (September 29, 2003) - St. Margaret's School opens its doors to the community this weekend for two days of fall fun. The Fifth Annual Rappahannock River Run and Crafts Festival takes place on Friday, October 3, and Saturday, October 4, on the school's Water Lane campus.

More than 40 area merchants and organizations are helping to sponsor the 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) run/walk, which draws participants from far and wide, said SMS Alumnae Director Liz Musselman. Sponsors include: Anna's Pizza, Atkins Petroleum and Propane, Bank of Essex, Bank of Lancaster, Bevans Oyster Company, Carpenter Studios, Chesapeake Academy, Collision Repair, Crowther Heating and Air Conditioning, Design Printing, Digital Wisdom, The Essex Inn, Esquire Services, Inc., W.A. Fisher and Son Electric, Ficklin Bryant, Harborside Storage, Hubbard Terry and Kopcsak Attorneys at Law, Jingles, June Parker Oil and Lowery's Restaurant.

Also: Northern Neck Gourmet, Northern Neck YMCA, Panoply Computers, Ransone's Nursery and Maintenance, Reedville Marina, Rivahside Café, Riverland Insurers, Riverside Accents and Gifts, Riverside Tappahannock Hospital, Roma Ristorante Italiano, Dr. William Ryan Optometrist, Southside Bank, Store-Tel Storage, T-Town Tack, Tappahannock Pharmacy, George Taylor, Tea House Gourmet Chinese Restaurant, Tappahannock Wal-Mart, WNNT Radio, Woodland Academy and WRAR Radio.

They and other local businesses stand to benefit as well, because approximately 150 St. Margaret's parents will be arriving in town on Friday for Fall Family Weekend. Many will stay in hotels in Tappahannock, Irvington, Kilmarnock, and Warsaw, and patronize area restaurants and other businesses - including those of the sponsors - while they are visiting their daughters.

The weekend's schedule of events includes:

    Crafts Festival, featuring smocked children's clothing, handbags, jewelry, home accessories, children's books, art photography, hats and scarves, and more - Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., on the lawn in front of Brockenbrough House.

    5K River Walk/Run and Water Lane Dash for Kids - Saturday, 8:00 a.m. Registration in front of St. Margaret's Hall from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m. The $20 race fee includes a River Run T-shirt while supplies last. A Water Lane Dash for kids takes place after the 5K starts.

The Rappahannock River Run and Crafts Festival is a community outreach and fundraising project of the St. Margaret's School Alumnae Association.
