Contact: Jenni Brockman Phone: 804-443-3357 Fax: 804-443-6781 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE By Juliana Bush Tappahannock (December 14, 2004) - St. Margaret’s 2004-2005 varsity basketball team, coached by Sue Ball
With a lead of 36 points (63-27) and a final basket scored by junior Kara Casey of Vienna at the buzzer, SMS walked away with an impressive home court victory over Steward on Thursday, December 9. The Scotties established an early lead by driving the ball up the court and grabbing rebounds under the basket. Co-captains Becky Clark of Lancaster and Thera Conrad of Seattle, WA , “kept the team focused and on task while also demonstrating excellent ball control on the floor,” said Coach Sue Ball. Conrad and Clark scored in the double digits with 10 and 19 points, respectively. Forward Casey achieved her first double-double of the season with 20 points and 13 rebounds. An energized St. Margaret’s faced off at home against Tidewater Academy of Wakefield on Friday, December 11. Casey posted 11 rebounds and 10 points to lead the Scotty offense. Excellent defense by junior Allison Ryan of Tappahannock kept the score close, Ball said. The final: Warriors 28, SMS 25. Ball is pleased with her team’s performance and looking forward to the resumption of play after Christmas break. St. Margaret’s next game is at Christchurch on Wednesday, January 5. |
