New SMS Faculty and Staff Offer Rich Experience

Tappahannock (September 12, 2005) - A faculty with more than 355 years of collective experience teaching at St. Margaret’s School has been augmented by one new senior administrator and five new teachers. While this is their first year at SMS, these latest additions to the school community offer 63 years of collective experience at other institutions and organizations, further enriching the classroom and campus.

Maureen Neal has been named Director of Development to oversee fundraising and alumnae activities and serve on the school’s administrative cabinet. Neal was Director of Development at Richmond Montessori School for the past seven years and has held management and consulting positions with a variety of Virginia non-profit organizations since 1980. A Certified Fund Raising Executive and graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond, she holds a B.A. from Christopher Newport University and a certificate in non-profit management from Virginia Commonwealth University. Neal also is active in a number of professional and community organizations.

The 2005-2006 faculty and staff at St. Margaret’s School offer students a wealth of experience.

Ashley Bawol has joined the Foreign Language Department to teach French. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Randolph-Macon College with a double major in French and English, she formerly worked as a bilingual customer service representative for a Richmond corporation. Bawol also serves as a dorm parent and leads the afterschool yoga activity.

Chelle DeGrasse brings 37 years of teaching experience to St. Margaret’s afterschool dance program. DeGrasse, the Director of Technical Studies and Artistic Director of the Academy of Ballet in Fredericksburg, studied physical education at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and trained for 10 years in Russian classical ballet. She also serves as a dorm parent.

Laura Dusablon is teaching science, serving as a dorm parent and supporting the athletic program as an assistant field hockey coach. She comes to SMS from Bishop Shanahan High School in Downingtown, PA, where she taught and coached. A graduate of Immaculata University with a B.A. in Biology, Dusablon was an Academic All-American in field hockey.

Genevieve Hiltebrand has joined the Math Department after teaching at Heritage Hall in Oklahoma City. Hiltebrand earned a B.S. in Math and Biology from Duke University, where her research experience included mathematical modeling projects at the Ocean University of China and at Duke’s Marine Lab. She also serves as a dorm parent and coaches novice rowing.

Heidi Schnee, an honors graduate of the University of Akron with double bachelor’s degrees in English and French, is teaching English, assisting in the Marketing Office and serving as a dorm parent. Schnee’s experience includes teaching English to employees of a multinational corporation and serving as an historical interpreter.
