Tappahannock (November 11, 2005) -

Pleasant fall weather and a flat course contributed to fast finishes in the Seventh Annual Rappahannock River Run at St. Margaret’s School on Saturday, October 15.

Douglas Marshall of Newport News once again led the field of more than 75 runners over the 3-mile course, finishing within 2 seconds of his 2004 victory to clock a winning time of 15:56. He was followed in the men’s top five by Bennett Sweren of Lutherville, MD (18:22), David Smith of Tappahannock (19:46), Mark Sisk of Richmond (22:58) and Jared Sullivan of Warsaw (23:12).

SMS junior Taylor Miller of Warrenton led the women’s division and finished fourth overall in 21:09. Tappahannock resident Julia Smith was close behind in 22:17 to place fifth overall. SMS junior Aubrey Sozer (22:59), assistant hockey coach Laura Dusablon (23:11) and freshman Caroline Casey (23:27) rounded out the women’s top five.

The event was coordinated by the St. Margaret’s School Alumnae Association and sponsored by more than 25 area businesses.
