At a recent awards breakfast, St. Margaret’s student-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments during the winter sports season.
Senior Kara Casey of Vienna won a berth on the League of Independent Schools’ all-league basketball team. She was selected for the honor by coaches at other LIS schools.
The varsity basketball team also named Casey as its most valuable player. She posted 196 points for the Scotties this season, earning the team’s highest scorer award. Junior Bukola Omotade of Elmont, NY, was voted most improved player. Coach Sue Ball presented freshman Crystal Thomas of Severn, MD, with the coach’s award for her consistent 110% effort and presented Allison Ryan of Tappahannock with a senior award for four years of varsity play.
Junior varsity basketball players chose freshman Corbin Brooks of Millers Tavern as the team’s most valuable player. Eighth-grader Mori Russell of Atlanta, GA, was voted most improved player. Coach Leslie McBride gave the coach’s award to Laura Kelley of Baton Rouge, LA, for her dedication and coachability.
The swim team, coached by Kelli Austin, selected junior Mariam Smith-Pliego of Mexico as most valuable swimmer and freshman Anna-Beth Lawler of Sandy Point as most improved swimmer.
The banquet marked the end of the winter athletic season. St. Margaret’s crew, soccer, softball and tennis teams will begin competition in early April.
