The St. Margaret’s spring athletic season has sprung and the Scotties are showing great promise.

Varsity Softball: On the heels of a disappointing 2-11 loss to St. Catherine’s on Friday, March, 28, the Scotties came back to defeat St. Gertrude 3-2 on Tuesday, April 1. Freshman pitcher Heather Chastain of Dunnsville had thirteen strikeouts during the game and scored on a hit by sophomore Imani Yasin. Junior Elise Bailey scored on balls, and with the game tied, Yasin came back at the top of the eighth inning to score the game-winning run on a hit by senior Catherine Magbee. Despite an impressive hit by Chastain to drive senior Dinika Archer into home, the Scotties fell to Trinity Episcopal School at home on Friday, April 4.

Varsity Soccer is off to a strong start this year with a 3-1 win over Steward on Friday, March 28. Sophomore Frankie Berscak scored two goals in the game and senior Kristen Clayton-White scored one. The team went 2 all in a tied game against Fredericksburg Academy on Tuesday, April 1, with Berscak and freshman Katrisha Blackwell scoring goals. After a 4-1 loss to Covenant, the Scotties will face St. Anne's-Belfield in Charlottesville on Tuesday, April 8.

Varsity Tennis had a strong showing in their Friday, March 28 match against Rappahannock High School, winning 7-2. Senior Willis Blair, junior Clarice Medrano, sophomore Meghan Sisk, and junior Melanie Waitzer won their singles matches. “Though there were a lot of close matches, the performance of the day was junior Flo Snyder who won her match 9-7?a very difficult feat,” said coach Rodney Watkins. The Blair/Waitzer and Sisk/Snyder duos also performed well, winning their doubles matches.
