Tappahannock (November 12, 2009) St. Margaret’s fall athletes were recently honored at an awards breakfast for their hard work and dedication throughout the season.

Sujin An ’10 of Seoul Korea was named the Most Valuable Runner by Varsity Cross Country Coach Frank Rixey. An was also awarded the singular senior award for Cross Country as a fourth year varsity runner. Lexie Bruzgul of Lancaster was awarded the Coach’s Award for her positive attitude and encouragement of her teammates.

In Varsity Field Hockey, Meghann Dintino ’14 of Lansing N.C. was named Most Improved Player by coach Laura Carney and Sue Ball. Dintino was the only eighth grader to earn a spot on the Varsity Field Hockey team this year. Frankie Berscak of Kitty Hawk N.C. was named Most Valuable Player in addition to earning a senior award for her four years on the varsity team. Berscak was also nominated to the all LIS Field Hockey team. Sara Bell of Chestertown W.V. was awarded the Coaches’ Award for switching to the new position of goalkeeper early in the season. Betsy Joslyn ’10 of Tappahannock and Tory Sterling ’10 were awarded senior awards.

Nikki Dansby of Washington, D.C. was named most improved player by Junior Varsity Volleyball coach Jodi Meyer. Kate Passagaluppi of Tappahannock was name Most Valuable Player for her skills on the court, and for never letting a ball drop. Coach Meyer gave Jennifer Tang of Beijing, China the Coach’s Award for her dedication to improving her skills.

Heather Chastain of Dunnsville was named Most Valuable Player by Varsity Coaches Gayle Hicks and Sarah Fritz for her impressive number of points scored this season. Chastain was also named to the all LIS Volleyball team. Genesis Claure of Alexandria earned the Coach’s Award for her hard work towards learning a new sport and ending the season with significant blocking skills.

The banquet marked the end of the fall athletic season. Tryouts for basketball and swimming are currently taking place and practice will begin following thanksgiving break. Visit www.sms.org to view the full spring sports calendar.
