Scotties Show Christchurch, St. Vincent's They Got Game
St. Margaret's varsity basketball team posted a big time win over Christchurch School last Tuesday, January 19th, at Christchurch. Sophomore St. Margaret's international exchange student Adrienne Richards, of Berwick, Australia, led SMS with 11 points. Richards, a shooting guard, challenged Christchurch's defense with her quickness and penetrating drives into the lane. Point guard Sara Newman also came up big, as she dished the ball to teammates throughout the contest. Junior forward Katie Farmer added 7 points. Junior forward Melissa Mancuso and Senior post player Cameron Sgroi added 5 and 6 points, respectively.
The game was high stakes for both sides as area bragging rights were on the line. Fierce competition led to on court trash-talking between players, flying elbows and the overall atmosphere seemed tournament-like in intensity and physical play as the rival schools battled for the win. In the end, SMS had more game and left with a 36 - 32 road win.
SMS traveled to St. Vincent's in Richmond on Thursday, January, 21st. The game showcased three SMS players scoring in double figures. Mancuso led the charge with 14 points; Sgroi added 12 points; Richards scored 10 points to lead the Scotties to a 51 - 34 victory.
The Scotties stand at 5 -1 in the League of Independent Schools Conference
