St. Margaret's Class of 1999 Plans for College

St. Margaret's Class of 1999 is one of the most diverse in years according to college counselor Mollie Conklin, of Warsaw. Conklin, who admits it was a tall mountain to climb, is quite pleased with this year's list of colleges and universities that her students will attend this fall.

Class of 1999 Tappahannock residents (with college choice in parentheses) are:

Erica Ell (Mary Washington College), Stephanie Hinson, (Virginia Wesleyan College), and Chesley Vaughan (Virginia Commonwealth University).

Warsaw residents Hillary Pugh and Cynthia Walker will attend Randolph Macon College and The University of Florida-Gainesville, respectively. Walker will play volleyball for the Lady Gators on a full-athletic scholarship; she plans take 8 credit-hours this summer to get an early start.

Remaining Class of 1999 day students are: Jessica Arnest, of Montross, who will attend Longwood College in Farmville; Katie Horsley, of Urbanna, was accepted to Lynchburg College; Kim Houck, of Fredericksburg, was accepted by College of Charleston and Hofstra University; Lesley Newman, of White Stone, plans to attend James Madison University in Harrisonburg; Caroline Nickel, of Irvington, will study at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC; Elizabeth Sadler, of Louisa, will attend William & Mary in Williamsburg.

Boarding students include: Katharine Davant, of King George, who will attend Columbia College in South Carolina. Lauren Eggleston, of Mechanicsville, and Roz Rogers, of Annandale, both will attend Mary Baldwin College in Staunton. Class President Yaisha Harding received a full-scholarship to Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. Harding plans to double major in English and African American studies. Akemi Iizumi, of Japan, will continue her study abroad at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI. Naoko Miyajima, also from Japan, will remain in the United States to study at Drexel University in Pennsylvania. Jung Youn Park, of Korea, will attend Emory University in Atlanta. Becca Schneider will pursue art at The University of Arkansas. Brinkley Stone has chosen Winthrop University. Ann Wang, of Taiwan, will be a Nitany Lion at Penn State University. School President Anne Worthington, of Gloucester, will join Lesley Newman at James Madison University. Anisa Xhafka, of Albania, plans to attend St. Olaf College; her sister, Azeta, received a full-academic scholarship to prestigious Wellesley College.

"These girls have come a long way-and some probably never thought they would make it to this stage-but I see a lot of promise and know that each will represent herself and St. Margaret's School well in college," says Conklin. "I wish them all much success in their future endeavors."
