Alaine Almond Joins St. Margaret's Staff

St. Margaret's School welcomes new faculty and staff member Alaine Almond for the 1999 - 2000 school year.

Almond graduated from The University of Virginia in May with a B.A. in English and Religious Studies. Since her arrival to Tappahannock in mid-June, Almond's primary responsibilities have been under her title as Assistant Director of Admission, where she assists colleagues Kim McDowell and Kerry Garrett with student recruitment, representing St. Margaret's both locally and nationally at school fairs and conferences.

"I am a firm believer in St. Margaret's admissions process. Kim, Kerry, and I look for prospective students who will come to St. Margaret's committed to make a difference in their lives and the lives of those in the greater community and world," comments Almond.

In addition to her admissions responsibilities, Almond will be a creative writing teacher and dorm counselor. During the school's minimester program in February, Almond plans to teach a creative writing course specifically on the autobiography genre. Almond also looks forward to her new role as a Latané Hall dorm parent. Almond comments, "I truly love to connect and work with young people. Having entered private school life myself at the age of six, I can relate to these girls and help them resolve conflicts in the dorm, settle into their own, and have a rewarding experience here."

"One of the benefits of working at St. Margaret's is that you have the opportunity to wear many hats and to help serve the school in a variety of ways. As the school's mission statement says, we're about educating young women for life, and it's satisfying for me to play a role in that," adds Almond.
