Zazzaro and Larose Join SMS Staff

St. Margaret's welcomes Roxanne Zazzaro and Michael Larose for the 1999-00 school year.

Zazzaro, a native of South Carolina, brings a wealth of experience to her new position as Dean of Students. Since 1994, Zazzaro has worked at Brooklyn Friends School (BFS) as a learning specialist where she also established a guidance program for families and students grades K - 12. In addition, Zazzaro has spearheaded Learning Center programs both at Cheshire Academy in Connecticut and BFS in New York. Zazarro's diverse background includes three years (1982-85) working as Assistant Editor of the Latrobe Bulletin in Pennsylvania and two years (1985-87) teaching overseas in Bogata, Columbia, Santiago, Chile, and Kuwait under the auspices of Readak Educational Services.

"For the past nine years, I have created programs in schools to help individual students step back and evaluate their academic programs. It has been a rewarding experience to reach out and help students modify their behaviors to reach their full potential both inside and outside of the classroom," comments Zazzaro.

Roxanne Zazzaro and Michael LaroseZazzaro earned a B.A. in English from Virginia Intermont College in 1992 and an M.S. in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University in 1995. She enjoys reading, cross stitching, and walking.

"As Dean of Students, I hope to build on the strong sense of community at St. Margaret's and have each girl realize the importance of both the school and local community. I want each girl to take an active role in these communities," says Zazzaro.

Larose has joined St. Margaret's staff as Head Librarian. Larose, who grew up in Thibodaux, LA, a quiet rural town in the Southern part of the state about an hour outside of New Orleans, comes from Archbishop Hannan High School (AHHS), where he worked as librarian for one year. Larose also moderated the Chess Club and Academic Games team at AHHS in Meraux, LA.
Larose earned both a B.A. in Speech Education (1993) and a M.Ed. in Library Science (1997) from the University of New Orleans. Larose enjoys reading, traveling, movies, and riding his mountain bike.

"With the fast pace of technology, I feel that teaching information skills is extremely important. Students today need to know how to access and edit information to use as tools for lifelong learning. I hope to see many SMS students become more sophisticated consumers of data and ideas as a result of my efforts," says Larose.

"I feel confident that Tappahannock will help me get back in touch with my rural roots," says Larose recalling the swampy, Cajun country of Southern Louisana where he grew up. "And I am proud to now call myself a Virginian," adds Larose with a smile.
