Fine Arts and Crafts Festival/River Run Scheduled for October 8 & 9 at St. Margaret’s School

St. Margaret’s School will host a Fine Arts and Crafts Festival, Friday, October 8 through Saturday, October 9, 1999. The St. Margaret’s Alumnae Association is sponsoring the festival as part of its annual fundraising efforts for the school. A 5-kilometer (or 3.1 miles) run/walk will also take place as part of the weekend activities.

The Arts and Crafts Festival will feature artists and artisans from around the state. Among the exhibitors are people who craft handmade baskets, hand-painted furniture, hand-tinted photographs, boiled wool hats, smocked children’s clothes, knitted and felted hats, handmade sterling silver jewelry, water colors, hooked rugs, wreaths, bird feeders, painted picture frames, and stained glass.

While the Arts and Crafts Festival will be ongoing throughout the weekend, the First Annual 5K Rappahannock River Run will take place at 8:00 am, Saturday, October 9, 1999. The race route winds along Water Lane through residential streets bordering the scenic Rappahannock River. The start and finish lines will be in front of St. Margaret’s Hall on Water Lane in Tappahannock; runners and walkers are encouraged to attend. A Water Lane Dash "fun run," intended for kids and adults who wish to participate in a shorter event, will take place immediately following the 5K race at approximately 8:45 a.m.

The Fine Arts and Crafts Show will open Friday, October 8 at 2:00 pm and run until 7:00 pm. The show will continue Saturday morning from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. "We hope our friends and guests will take the opportunity to shop for the upcoming holidays," said Martha Frances Fortson, president of the St. Margaret's Alumnae Association, "St. Margaret’s is particularly beautiful in the fall and we hope folks will come and visit us."

The school's Fall Family Weekend will also take place this weekend, October 8 - 9. In addition to the 5K Rappahannock River Run and Crafts Festival, a dedication of the school's new Community/Technology Center will take place, Friday evening at 7:30 pm. "We are pleased to finally have this wonderful facility available for both the school and local community to use," said SMS headmistress Margaret Broad.
