St. Margaret's To Host Day Student Visit Day
St. Margaret's School will host its annual fall Day Student Visit Day on Tuesday, October 26. The aim of the event is to introduce prospective day students to life at St. Margaret's School.
(l. to r.) Assistant Head of School, Mark H. Eastham, sits with 1999-2000 Student Leaders Laura Austin, Emily Fisher, and Yin Chien Hou.
Prospective students will assemble at 7:40 a.m. in front of St. Margaret's Hall. The group will then head to the chapel for morning announcements. Prospective students will attend classes for a first hand view of St. Margaret's academics. Afterward, the admissions staff will host a slide show presentation in Brockenbrough House. The slide show presentation will be followed by a tour of the school, led by 1999-2000 peer leaders, and a group lunch in St. Margaret's new state-of-the-art science facility, The Community/Technology Center.
After lunch student leaders will give individual presentations on a variety of school topics: Laura Austin, of Warsaw, will explain clubs and the school's community service program; Student Body President, Sara Pirtle, of Champlain, will discuss leadership and sports; Honor Council Head Carver Weakley will talk to the group about Vestry; Cameron Sgroi, a senior day student from Tappahannock, will discuss traditions at SMS; and Rachelle Slotnick, of Tappahannock, will tell about music, drama, and the school's arts programs.
SMS Headmistress, Margaret R. Broad, and Dean of Students, Roxanne Zazzaro, will talk with prospective students and field questions from the group. "We are excited to meet our prospective day students and hope that many will come to spend this special day with us," Broad said.
St. Margaret's is an open and non-discriminatory boarding and day school for girls grades 8 - 12. Founded on the Episcopal tradition, St. Margaret's School is committed to its motto: Educating Young Women for Life.
Shuttle transportation to SMS will leave from Grace Episcopal Church, Kilmarnock, at 6:45 a.m. The day's activities will conclude at 1:30 p.m.; participants are asked to arrange transportation back to their school or to call the Admission Office in advance for assistance.
